Fred and Alice Green in their Golden Wedding Anniversary
Fred and Alice Green celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, August 19, 1958. Alice served as Sibford's postmistress for over 41 years.
Both worked hard for many village and district organizations. Alice did a tremendous amount of work for local hospitals and the blind, organizing collections and other events to raise money. Both appeared on the BBC in Leslie Baily's Scrapbook, and Alice appeared on TV in Chris Chataway's Away From It All, playing her part like an experienced film star. Alice's main hobby is making smocks; she made many for the former Sibford sculptor and pageant master, Lascelles.
They had three children and eight grandchildren. Regarding their Golden Wedding, they said: "We had a wonderful day and were delighted with the many congratulations, telegrams, and cards we received from Old Scholars. Fifty years sounds like a long time, but you know, it doesn't seem like it to us."
